Canterbury Sailplanes Gliders arrow Eagle

Eagle

Price: $185.00

Eagle

The Eagle is a light-weight high performance EPP sailplane designed specifically for Discus Launching, however like most of our other models, it's also suitable for light wind slope soaring.

The Eagles fuselage pod is made from high density EPP, concentrating strength and weight in the perfect location for balance. The wing is from the low density EPP, to keep the overall weight down. Because the Eagle is made with EPP, it has the ability to bounce without breaking – making it ideal for a first DLG.

The Eagle fuselage boom is a light weight carbon fibre tapered tube, very strong, but also resilient enough to take the knocks. The wing spars are also carbon fibre tubes, to produce the stiffness required for high speed discus launches.

The Eagle weighs just 400gms (14oz) all up including radio gear and despite being bigger than our Eaglet, the Eagle actually has a lower wing loading! The Eagle also has a very clean profile and minimal frontal area, which all helps with penetration into the wind and for launches. The Eagle indicates lift clearly when passing through it, and goes up on the sniff of a thermal!

A computer radio is required to get the best out of the Eagle, it uses two mini servos for the ailerons and one for the elevator. The advantage of using a computer radio is the ability to dial in whatever reflex or flap settings you require to suit the conditions.

If you've never tried discus launching a glider because it looks difficult – think again! The Eagle has been designed especially for intermediate fliers, either as a first DLG or as a practice model. The Eagle uses the same Eppler 174 wing section as the Eaglet, to get the best performance for a high speed discus launch and efficient glide. The Eagle also has the same amazingly slow stalling speed; landing is as easy as catching it in your hand!

So why should you fly DLG – because it's fun!!! Plus you'll learn a whole lot more about thermalling than you ever will on the slope!

Special thanks to Alex Hewson for assisting with the design and development of the Eagle.

All the EPP components included in the kit are produced with a computer controlled dual axis cutting machine and finished by hand to ensure the quality of each part is correct and ready to assemble.
